Impact
Okavango Hidden Gems is a community-led eco-tourism outfit that supports our local communities—rooted in placemaking principles, sustainable tourism and sound stewardship. Our team’s professional development can make a difference in the next generation’s tourism experience.
We are committed to growing the Botswana economy and preserving the fragile ecosystem in which we operate. By employing planet-friendly business principles and investing in our workforce, the proud Batswana people, we contribute to Botswana’s thriving tourism industry.
Our conscious eco-tourism approach is designed to attract like-minded guests and travel partners.
Here are some details about our sustainable approaches at our Botswana lodges

Locally sourced Produce
We source our local fish from the local fisherman where possible and actively purchase locally.

Locally sourced Amenities & Décor
We support African-based businesses wherever possible. We work with local artisans for soft furnishings like chairs and woodwork for all craft work such as wooden pole work (latte), reed work and traditional dug-out canoes (mokoros).

Environmentally Conscious
We have a simple recycling process and employ reverse-osmosis water purification. We use reusable glass bottles for drinking water instead of plastic bottles. We encourage guests to refill their water bottles in camp. We have energy-saving geysers.

Solar Power
We harness the renewable energy source, the African sun, to power our camp.
We have an unwavering commitment to improving our operational footprint and are fully confident in our ability. While the list is not exhaustive, we approach it with a humble determination, striving to live up to our role as a sustainable tourism outfit within Botswana’s significant eco-tourism sector.
